Te Whare O Rehua Sarjeant Gallery opening campaign - Summer of Arts

CLIENT: TE WHARE O REHUA SARJEANT GALLERY

After a decade behind hoardings, Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery reopened its doors to the public on Saturday 9 November 2024, and I was there to document it. The heritage building, closed since 2014 over earthquake risk, has been reimagined by architects Warren and Mahoney into a gallery that holds both its history and its future, joined now by a striking new wing, Te Pātaka o Tā Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa, honouring kaumātua Tā Archie Taiaroa. It was a rare brief: capture a genuinely historic civic moment for a community that had waited ten years for a national treasure to open again, while also producing campaign imagery warm and current enough to carry the gallery's Summer of Art season across print, web and social media.
